OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this CE material, the participant should be able to:

  1. Describe the most commonly performed bariatric procedures.

  2. Identify the mechanisms associated with weight loss and bariatric surgery that increase fracture risk.
  3. Cite the essential components of a long-term clinical management plan for patients following bariatric surgery.
  4. Employ strategies to promote bone health in post-bariatric surgery patients.
  5. Discuss factors that may affect efficacy of pharmacologic therapy in patients with malabsorption due to bariatric surgery.
