NOF’s Generations of Strength leadership is made up of two national committees focused on elevating osteoporosis to an issue of national concern through media and professional outreach, and also raising funds to support the 44 million Americans affected by the disease.
The Generations of Strength National Honorary Committee is made up of nationally and internationally-known figures who exemplify strength in body, mind and character. These notable mothers and daughters are playing a critical role in ensuring that our awareness and educational messages reach the public through trusted and recognizable voices to help ignite meaningful conversations.

As the bestselling author of 16 books, Gail Sheehy has rocked our culture and changed the way millions of women and men around the world look at the stages of their lives. Her book Passages was named one of the most important books of our time by the Library of Congress. In her latest book, Passages in Caregiving, she tells the inspiring story of her 17-year journey caring for her husband through several bouts with cancer as well as stories of families in every stage of the caregiving journey.
We are thrilled to have Ms. Sheehy as the Generations of Strength National Honorary Committee Chair and helping raise awareness about osteoporosis and bone health both by writing articles like this one for USA Today and serving as our primary campaign spokesperson.
The Generations of Strength National Host Committee members are committed to advancing the campaign through leadership and participation in special events, fundraising and community awareness. These individuals utilize their marketing, sales and communications skills to support NOF’s educational and outreach initiatives.

We are equally thrilled to have long‐time NOF volunteer Sharon Marantz Walsh, an artist and writer of New York City, chair our National Host Committee. As founder and chair of NOF’s A Gift from Mothers to Daughters® luncheon, Sharon has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars through sponsorships, ticket sales and auction items. Sharon is leading the National Host Committee’s effort to raise $2 million to support NOF’s work on behalf of patients.
