NOF's Generations of Strength events bring together leading experts and volunteer advocates to plan and host events exploring the latest topics on bone health and osteoporosis prevention. The events are held in cities across the country and all proceeds benefit NOF’s continued public outreach and education. Whether a community walk, cocktail reception or shop-for-a-cause nights – there is something for everyone!

We need your help to spread messages about the importance of bone health and family history to your friends, family, co-workers and healthcare providers. Host Event Forms: Once you’ve decided to host your own event, tell us about it with these pre- and post-event forms plus helpful checklist. Lambda Delta Psi Sorority at Texas A&M University will once again dedicate their Philanthropy Week from April 15-20 to promoting osteoporosis awareness and prevention through various activities, including presentations, bake sales and a game night.
NOF will host our annual Consumer Forum as the kickoff event for our Interdisciplinary Symposium on Osteoporosis (ISO13). NOF will participate in the Porsche World Roadshow USA, an exclusive driving event in honor of National Osteoporosis Month. Georgetown Square presents the 3rd Annual Diva Dash, an all-women’s and girls' 5K race benefiting NOF. Bone density tests and blood pressure readings will be available during the dash to both runners and spectators. Last year’s event drew in more than 350 runners and raised $5,000 for NOF!

Join NOF for our 6th annual fundraising luncheon celebrating Generations of Strength and honoring champions for bone health. NOF is joining with the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) to host a Consumer and Patient Forum. This free, educational event will bring together some of HSS’s expert clinicians to discuss bone health topics including basic information about bone health and testing, the importance of physical activity and nutrition and osteoporosis treatment options. Sally Eisenberg, Certified Holistic Health Counselor, hosted a cooking event in her own kitchen as she shared methods of incorporating more "bone-healthy" foods in to your diet. The menu consisted of a red lentil soup, a broccoli and baked tofu stir-fry, an arame/cucumber salad and a raw chocolate pudding. Event proceeds benefited NOF.
NOF partnered with the Philadelphia Art Alliance for cocktails, shopping, conversation and a panel discussion on bone health and osteoporosis prevention. Nearly 80 guests gathered to hear from our experts, Dr. Marie Savard, Dr. Farah Morgan and nutritionist Sally Eisenberg.
Saks Fifth Avenue hosted a home artisan shopping event to kick off the holiday season, with a percentage of proceeds benefiting NOF.
NOF national committee member Sally Fullman hosted a lecture in cooperation with the West Orange JCC, Barnabas Health, Whole Foods, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation and Project Healthy Bones. Physical therapist and health coach Margie Bissinger shared informative and practical tips for boosting bone health with the nearly 150 in attendance.
Ben Palumbo (age 13) and his parents of Orefield, PA hosted an event in honor of Ben's two grandmothers, who suffer from osteoporosis. Ben educated his guests about preventing the disease, served bone-healthy food and sold NOF's Pearls of Strength bracelets. He raised more than $1,900 in support of NOF's Generations of Strength!
The Penn State Dairy Science Club hosted their 11th Annual OsteoChallenge 5K Race/Walk in support of NOF.
NOF's 5th annual luncheon celebrated the Generation of Strength campaign’s first year success and honored champions for bone health. Nearly $150,000 was raised at the event, putting us closer to our $2 million campaign fundraising goal. We thank our many supporters of NOF's signature event.
Le Jardin Day Spa & Salon hosted an open house with NOF as a featured charity. Educational materials and Pearls of Strength bracelets were available.
“TRI FOR YOUR BONES” at the West Plains WunderWoman Triathlon, the only women’s-only triathlon in the country raising awareness for bone health! This event celebrates the women who are changing their lives and the lives of future generations by creating healthy, positive lifestyles and building strong bones. The morning includes free bone density screenings and an expert panel and Q&A with Dr.
The Washington Osteoporosis Coalition, Spokane Osteoporosis and Emde Sports presented the third annual “Strides for Strong Bones.” Men, women and children of all ages were invited to participate in this 5K Fun Run designed to raise awareness for bone health in the Spokane community. Participants also had the chance to get a free bone density test.
Georgetown Curves presented their 2nd Annual Diva Dash to raise awareness of osteoporosis and funds for NOF's Generations of Strength Campaign. More than $5,000 was raised. View race results here!
Provena St. Mary’s Hospital celebrated a favorite pastime of many mothers and daughters – gardening! Gathered at the Kankakee County Museum, Dr. Wuraola Omotosho planted seeds for conversation about why bone health is important, while Mary Thomson presented on “Flower Power: How to keep your plants healthy all summer long.”
The DaVinci Sports and Rehab Group presented “Bowling for Strong Bones” at the Brunswick Zone in Watauga, Texas. Leading up to the event and in honor of National Osteoporosis Month, they shared NOF materials with their clients and visitors and even raffled off NOF’s Pearls of Strength bracelets.
Generations of Strength Campaign Committee Member and NOF National Support Group Leader Susan Recker hosted “Strong Bones, Strong Minds,” in partnership with the Creighton University Osteoporosis Research Center, Omaha Public Library and Roberts Dairy (there was even an appearance by “spokescow,” Roberta)! Guests heard the latest on osteoporosis from NOF president, Dr. Robert Recker and Dr. Laura Armas.
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs welcomed journalist and author Cokie Roberts to examine women’s roles throughout history, including some of America’s “founding mothers.” NOF was pleased to share our Generations of Strength materials, sell Pearls of Strength Collection items and even pick up signed copies of Ms. Roberts’ latest books.
The Women’s Gynecology & Childbirth Associates (GWCA) hosted osteoporosis awareness activities throughout the month of May in honor of National Osteoporosis Month.
In honor of National Osteoporosis Month in May 2012, Diagnostic Imaging Associates near Buffalo, NY hosted a month-long awareness and fundraising "event." In addition to distributing materials on osteoporosis risk factors, medications, diet and exercise, they will provide density testing and encourage employees to "Go Casual for Osteoporosis" to raise funds for NOF's campaign.
In May 2012, Generations of Strength Campaign Member Mirabai Holland and the Sarasota Ballet partnered to present "Skeletal Fitnes: A Workout for Your Bones." The entry fees from these bi-weekly weight-bearing and weight resistance workouts benefitted NOF's campaign. You can work your bones by purchasing Mirabai's workout DVD in the NOF Store.
NOF was the beneficiary of an event hosted by CMH Travel Adventures. National Geographic Author, CMH Traveler and Generations of Strength Campaign Committee Member Marybeth Bond shared her travel experiences and mused on “what makes life meaningful.” You may remember Marybeth and her daughter, JC, biked across America in the summer of 2010 to raise awareness for osteoporosis, and in the process, they also raised $52,000 for NOF! This lecture reception was attended by nearly 50 guests – all inspired by Marybeth’s passion, enthusiasm and generous spirit.
In conjunction with NOF's annual professional meeting, we hosted a consumer-friendly event open to the public. Leading experts presented the latest information on osteoporosis, including exercise, diet, medication and risk reduction. Starting conversations about bone health is our way of giving back to cities hosting our annual meeting. Look for us next year in Chicago!
On Wednesday, April 18 The Carlisle Collection in New York City hosted a lecture reception featuring NOF Trustee and Nutritionist to the NY Giants and The Julliard School, Heidi Skolnik. Approximately 40 women came out to Carlisle’s elegant penthouse showroom and examined how images in the media are affecting our body image and bone health, and that of our nation’s youth.
April 9-13, 2012 marked Philanthropy Weeks for Lambda Delta Psi at Texas A&M University and the University of Oklahoma. In addition to distributing campaign materials to their college communities, they raised funds from bake sales and game nights!
On Saturday, March 17, the GFWC Dickson County in Tennessee hosted a Spring Women’s Expo to highlight the importance of bone health and NOF’s Generations of Strength Campaign.
On November 15, 2011, NOF partnered with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) to host the first event in the Pearls of Strength Salon Series. The event was held at the historic GFWC headquarters in Washington, DC and featured Dr. Lubna Pal of the Yale University School of Medicine discussing the surprising secret your wrinkles may reveal about your bone health.
