Following is a Statement by the
National Osteoporosis Foundation on the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s
Clearance of
the Elecsys N-MID Osteocalcin test
August 15, 2005 –
Osteoporosis is a serious, widespread
and growing public health threat,
according to the National Osteoporosis
Foundation (NOF). NOF
welcomes
any new FDA cleared diagnostic options,
such as the Elecsys N-MID Osteocalcin
test, that will help patients address
this all too prevalent disease. NOF estimates 44 million
American women and men age 50 and older
are at risk of breaking a bone due to
osteoporosis and low bone mass.
