NOF has developed a professional education presentation package entitled Osteoporosis: What Healthcare Professionals Need to Know. This professional education activity has been developed to address issues encountered by healthcare professionals relating to osteoporosis and bone health by providing a training resource they may use in their daily practice. It includes over 180 professionally produced PowerPoint slides organized in three modules, to be used for grand rounds, as teaching tools for residents and students, on-the-job training for staff, continuing education presentations, and peer-to-peer meetings. Supplemental material makes this packet an all-in-one educational resource on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis. This activity is divided into three modules that, combined, provide an excellent overview of osteoporosis and bone health or individual sections and slides can be used to better focus on a specific component of the condition. These modules include What is Osteoporosis, Prevention, and Assessing Risk Factors; Incidence, Prevalence, and Diagnostic Techniques; and Osteoporosis Treatment and FDA Approved Medications. This activity has been developed for health professionals who participate in the care of patients at risk for or suffering from osteoporosis, including but not limited to physician specialists, general practice and family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, radiology technicians and densitometrists, and other healthcare professionals working for bone health.
