Idiopathic Osteoporosis in Premenopausal
Women Research Study is sponsored by the
National Institutes of Health, Institute
of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Skin
Diseases (NIAMS).
The goal of this study is to define the
causes of osteoporosis in premenopausal
women. Women to be enrolled in the study
will undergo an extensive evaluation for
known causes of osteoporosis and only
those in whom no underlying cause can be
found will be eligible to participate.
Enrolled women will have bone imaging
studies, blood tests and collect morning
urine for two menstrual cycles. A sample
of bone will be sent for in-depth
studies of bone quality. NIAMS is
looking for women with the diagnosis of
osteoporosis and women over the age of
18 who are experiencing non-traumatic
fractures. A stipend is being provided
