The NOF Bone Builders’ Club is holding its next meeting on Wednesday, October 10 at 1:30pm at the Wellness Center. Guest speaker, Joanne Caudill, RT, CBDT, Bone Health Services Coordinator for Carroll Arthritis, P.A., will present Loving Your Independence, focusing on the different approach that’s needed for osteoporosis treatment. Joanne will discuss how inconceivable it would be if a patient was discharged from the hospital following a “heart attack” without being prescribed a follow up visit with a cardiologist, not to mention a whole regimen of medications. However, a patient discharged from the hospital following a “bone attack” (aka: hip fracture) is typically NOT prescribed a follow up visit with a bone specialist or a regimen of medication to prevent a future “bone attack.” Preventing fractures and future fractures has to be addressed more seriously as our population is not ready to give up their independence! Are you? Osteoporosis is just one part of a syndrome leading to fracture. We need to address all components of the syndrome, not just the bones.
Come join the meeting to learn ways to preserve your independence. Registration is required to attend. For additional information and to register, call (443) 605-1070.
